Using Twitter for Student and Parent Notification
A while back I mentioned using twitter at my high school. I spoke with our principal about students and parents being able to get updates about what’s going on at the school on their phones and he was completely into it:

I plan on sending out at least one tweet a week, just about what’s going on at the school. And away we go.

I plan on using this too – to send friendly reminders to check the blog, what the assignments are for their class that week, and to ask for help if they need it. I love this idea – so glad you are keeping the technophile in all of us going – btw, according to urban dictionary, a technophile is the opposite of a luddite. Hee..hee.

I am so glad that I stumbled over your blog – this is such a smart use for a WEb2.0 technology tool that I could see no value in – when I read about Twitter I dimissed it as yet more white noise – BUT when every parent has a cell phone – which tends to be true in New Zealand – this is a great idea

@Belinda – I’m going to use it for my Government classes as well. It looks like we’re going to be blowing up some kids cell phones. Cool!
@Artichoke – Thanks. It took me a while to see the value in twitter as well (http://mrmoses.org/?p=72), but I love this use of it. BTW, there’s another edublogger from NZ that I read: http://learnonline.wordpress.com/, if you haven’t already, check it out.

Is too much information ever really too much information?
