Show Yourself Widget

Just a picture of the widget from the front page of the site. Check out the working version.
My favorite part of online learning is things you stumble upon along the way. I suppose I’m not alone in this and that’s why there’s Stumbleupon.
As I was looking at others writing about the New York Times laptop article I came across this post about an online widget maker for your website/blog/whatever. Personally, I love that I go to one spot on my website and get linked out to the services I use and visit often. From a visitor, or student standpoint, the widget gives access to the public part of my accounts. I dig that. A lot.
This widget provides is an important part of my pedagogy, “You can’t learn anything from strangerâ€Â. What a great tool for breaking down some of the barriers between teacher and person.
As I got more into this widget I wanted to see who created it, so I went to the root of the website. As it turns out, it’s a 17-year-old high school senior, who’s on his way to Rice next year. I’m sharing one of his posts, about things to bring to college, with my classes. From reading his blog he could be one of my students. That, to me, is amazing.
To high school seniors out their, and their parents, is this what your high school senior is doing? If not it’s time to start asking why not.
